Symbian Signed
"Symbian Signed" is a new program from Symbian to support tested and digitally signed applications on Symbian OS phones. It is a common program and supported by all Symbian licensees including Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, Sendo and more.
Now that the program is launched, smartphone users will be able to find and install signed applications. The signing means that the application has passed the test criteria and is digitally signed to guarantee the source and integrity of the application. From Sony Ericsson we will encourage all users to use signed applications only. To show compliance to the program the developers are allowed to use a Symbian logo called "For Symbian OS"

Instructions on how to prepare for "Symbian Signed" applications on Sony Ericsson phones.
In order to install an application that is "Symbian Signed" you must have a Symbian root certificate in your phone.
Sony Ericsson P800 phones don't have it preinstalled but it is possible to install it from many places. See below.
All Sony Ericsson P900 phones should have a Symbian root certificate preinstalled. All future Symbian OS based phones will also have it from factory. If you have accidentally erased it from your phone it is possible to use the same procedures as if you had a P800.
How to check if the Symbian certificate is installed
Go to Applications -> Control Panel -> Certificate manager -> Certificate Authority. In the list you should see a certificate named "Symbian".
If the Symbian certificate is not there you will need to install it. To do this, you must have the "Sony Ericsson" certificate in the list. If you can't see the "Sony Ericsson" certificate you must contact Sony Ericsson's support. It is not possible to do a remote installation of this specific certificate.
How to install the Symbian certificate
Download the Certificate Installation Application (CIA) to your PC.
The CIA is available from these places:
You must accept the software license agreement dialog on the web to download.
The format of the application is a normal Symbian OS installation file and the name is Certificate_installation.sis.
Install it to your phone through the PC suite in the same way as for all downloadable applications.
After successful installation the application called "Certificate installation" appears in the application list. Scroll down if you can't see it.
Click on it and the installation begins on the phone. When completed it is removed from the application list and you should be able to see the Symbian certificate in the Certificate Authority list.
Now it is possible to install "Symbian Signed" applications in a secure way on your phone!
